Amazon gets you to buy more iPhones, lawn mowers, power washers, and movies by: first selling you bananas. Whole Foods, owned by Amazon, ropes you in with the promise of savings. These banana sales will translate down the road to a tighter grip on all of a consumers’ purchases and result in lost sales for all or most retailers including Best Buy, Home Depot, AutoZone, Nordstrom, and more.

Amazon has about 100 lobbyists in DC and spent $13 million on lobbying, reports today’s WSJ. Amazon increasingly relies on the government for business contracts and to provide shipping via USPS. If the USPS raised its prices $1, it would cost Amazon about $1.8 billion.

Considering this information, it starts to make sense why Amazon owner Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post newspaper.

HFN shares that AmericasMart and the Vegas show now have same owner. One may ask: what does this mean for the Dallas market? Some people have speculated that one of the shows may shrink or even close within 10 years.

And notice the use of the word “platform” in the headline. Platforms are the future—not siloed sites or businesses. Bridge is an e-commerce platform that is well positioned in the retail market.
