Amazon sales decreased between 9% - 29% when it stated charging tax on purchase. It currently only charges tax on things it sells—not things by third parties which account for maybe 60% of its sales. If we want to help Main Street, we have to collect tax on internet purchases. That will level the playing field and financially help our schools, roads, and communities. Let’s hope the Supreme Court overturns Quill.

Cormac Kinney, founder of a new online jewelry rental service called Flont, made an observation that I liked. He said:

“Look at software. People don’t buy it anymore—they subscribe to it. A lot people don’t buy cars anymore—they use Uber, Zip Car or lease them. No one buys computer servers anymore—they use Amazon, Google or Microsoft. All the things that we used to buy is now a service."
